RAISING THE ROOF
Morningside Architects helped this family of five expand the living areas of their low-slung ranch house. The solution was to build both out and up. Space to grow toward the front and side on the corner lot meant that the existing living room and dining room could be larger and the entrance could be relocated to align with a stone fireplace, lit by clerestory windows. Beyond the fireplace, the driveway entrance leads to a powder room, utility room, and pantry. The kitchen sink is under the same kitchen window as before but the room is now connected and open to the public areas of the home. A new study offers privacy behind two sliding panel doors.
